Cougar TV News Week of October 14, 2019 Weather with Amani and Emma:  Did you know that September 23rd was the first day of fall. Really, and it has been so warm! Yes, the afternoons have continued to be warm but,  the mornings and the evenings are getting colder.  That means students are coming to school with sweaters and jackets.  That is why we've been noticing more and more sweaters and jackets in the lost and found.  Last week it was in the mid-80's all week.  This week it is going to get colder.  We will be having sunny skies all week.  It will be in the mid-seventies. It sounds like the mornings and evenings will be a little cooler.  So don't forget to bring your sweaters and jackets, but don't leave them on the playground.   Back to you. Transition to Recyling Bottles and Cans: (Student throws water bottle in trash) Did I just see you throw a water bottle in the trash?  Oh yeah, where else would I throw it? Haven't you seen those big blue recycling bins around the school? What bins?   Oh, those ones. I thought they were to throw handballs into. No!  They are for bottles and cans, so we can help save the environment.  There are three of them around the school. Can I recycle paper in them too? No, these are just for your bottles and cans Can I recycle my old clothes? Or electronics? I have an old ipad that doesn't work any more. What?  No!  They are only for bottles and cans. Okay, okay.  Just bottles and cans.  Can I at least sit on it while I drink my water? (glares) No! But you can tell your friends to recycle too.  Transition to interview with Mrs. Teschke Hey guys.  We are here today with Mrs. Teschke We are going to ask her a few questions about about some of the things she likes to do. Um, how did you get your dogs? Well, first of all, I'd like to tell you that I have two dogs, Tank and Bear and Tank came to us by kind of being very persistent with my husband I'd always wanted a pug and I kept asking for a pug. Even thought I didn't necessarily have to ask, but it is a family decision if you get a new dog and finally one day he said "fine, let's just get a pug". So we drove way out to Riverside and found Tank and we've had it for 14 years and he's been a wonderful dog Bear is a Pug as well.  He is five and he came from a woman in Downey Bear is an apricot color pug, kind of a lighter color and Bear is black. What does it take to be a principal?  Well, educationally, it takes a Bachelor's Degree and then a Master's Degree and then a credential that you can do that job.  It also takes an understanding that you can't know everything, but you should rely on the talents of your team; like the teachers and staff, because they bring so much awesome talent to the school. It's not about me knowing everything but it's about me supporting them and working with them. What's the most challenging part about being a principal? Seeing sometimes that students are struggling.  Maybe there is something going on in their lives that is making them sad or unhappy or stressed.  Not always being able to fix those types of problems but just knowing that being here and making King a happy place for kids to want to be is what I can do to help them and that's what I try to do What is the best part of the day? Really? Handball; being outside with you guys.  Especially when you're walking or skipping because that's the best!  Did you know know that last year the only stitches and broken arms that were acquired here King School were from running? Yea, so I think that if you don't run you might be less likely to get stitches It is for safety. Well, we thank you for being here and we will see you our there on the playground Thank you!
